I am a Chinese Born in America, people usually called me “ABC” (American Born Chinese), especially when I travelled to Asian countries. From my personal feeling, “ABC” is quite similar to the meaning of et cetera (etc.), which may not be a decent calling.
Until one day I came across one of my friends, we talked about the needs of a Chinese name and she has given me advice for the culture, history and wisdom behind to make a Chinese name. This was amazing and new to me. As I got limited knowledge about this as well, my friend Catherine was kind enough to offer me a Chinese name “狄晉光” and I have shown this to my colleagues and people during my travel to Asia. The response that I received from people are always appreciated and positive. To have a good Chinese name is really helping me to connect with people.
